I’m a full-time freelance writer based in Asheville, NC. I sold my first freelance article in 1988 and since then I’ve sold hundreds of articles and essays. I’ve actually lost count of the exact total, but I have topped 800.
I am a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA), a contributing editor for Blue Ridge Country Magazine (I’ve been writing for this publication for more than 25 years!), a staff writer for TheManual.com, and a ProfilePro staff writer for Match.com. In addition, I write for a variety of other publications.
I’ve also written two books, both published by The History Press: Only in Asheville: An Eclectic History (June 2015) and Legends, Secrets and Mysteries of Asheville (June 2017). I’m now working on a third title: Wicked Asheville, to be released sometime in 2018.
My background includes 10 years as a News Producer at WLOS-TV in Asheville, N.C., and six years as Director of Communications at Mars Hill College (now University) in Mars Hill, N.C.
I’ve written about a wide range of topics: health, pregnancy, tech-related, cooking, nutrition, luxury homes, remodeling, craft beer and mesmerizing cocktails, product reviews, parenting issues, profiles of artists and craftspeople, as well as travels around the southeast. I’m an Asheville native and absolutely love writing about this town.
